Your mental health is an important factor in your overall happiness, health, and well-being. But, what many people fail to realize is that caring for your mental health can take a lot of time and work, just as it can to maintain your physical health.
Fortunately, there are many different strategies you can use to take care of your mental health, such as taking time for yourself, self-care techniques, therapy, and more. That being said, each person is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. For some, a little self-care or attending therapy might be enough, but for others, a more intensive approach may be necessary. In such cases, an intensive may be a great option for you.
The Heart of Counseling and Wellness is here to provide you with the intensive mental health support that you need. You shouldn’t have to struggle with your mental health on your own, so if you’re looking to receive the tools and support necessary to start improving your mental health, let me help you.
Intensive Therapist | Brainspotter | Advocate
Life can throw many things our way that challenge our sense of identity, peace, security, and stability.
Nevertheless, I believe that with support and empowerment, individuals can live fulfilling and healthy lives. I understand the importance of creating a safe space for clients to be vulnerable and open.
I am here to provide that safe space and walk with clients as they journey through healing processes as well as through life transitions.
Why Intensive Therapy?
Do you ever get tired of feeling like there is not enough time when you are done with your session? Are you a couple that feels like the time you sit down in your session, it’s time to get up to leave? In both cases you can sometimes feel defeated that things will never get better. The healing process is hard. Couple intensives are done in a 6-8-week format. Individual intensives are done in a week to two-week format.
If you’re looking for a more in-depth form of therapy, an intensive might be exactly what you need.
When you are done with your intensive, you will leave with foundational tools that will enhance the rest of your healing journey, move blocks that have hindered your process, and gain understanding of what happened to you and how it now shows up in your behavioral patterns.
Is Intensive Therapy Right for Me?
Intensive Therapy is right for you if you are looking for:
- 3 to 4 hours a day in session
- Individual or couple focus (not done in a group format)
- Safe place
- Intensive plan set specifically for your needs
- More than just talk therapy
Intensive Therapy is NOT right for you if you…
- Are looking for a “cure for all”. Intensives aren’t for every client and that’s ok. Intensive therapy is a supplement to the healing journey.
- Aren’t ready to put in the time and effort. Some things are better opened in a slower pace and then after you reach a comfortable level, then reconsider an intensive to be part of taking your journey to the next level.
When Is the Right Time to Seek Help?
As mentioned above, every person is different when it comes to their mental health. It may take some consideration before you decide you’re ready for therapy. You might want to wait and see if time, the support of friends and family, or lifestyle changes improves whatever you’re struggling with. However, if those aren’t enough, it may be time to seek professional help.
The American Psychological Association suggests you consider seeking professional help when something causes distress and interferes with some part of life, particularly when:
- The issue has caused your quality of life to decrease
- The issue has negatively affected your work, school, or relationships
- Thinking about or coping with the issue takes up at least an hour every day
- You’ve made changes in your life or developed habits to cope with the issue
- The issue causes embarrassment or makes you want to avoid others
How Do I Get Started?
Meeting one-on-one for an intake is the first step in starting your intensive experience. This intake generally takes 1 to 2 hours as a thorough history needs to be taken. Based on this intake, the number of hours can be determined, and a plan can be made for completing the intensive. This plan will include such things as: schedule, techniques being used, what to expect while in the intensive, as well as the overall cost.
